What’s Included with the Jackery 200W Solar Panel?

It includes a quick guide and a cable to connect the solar module to the power station. The cable has an integrated adapter from DC7909 to DC8020. So, it is suitable for older Jackery power stations with a DC7909 plug as well as for all current models. The cable length is really generous at 3 metres. This means that the position in relation to the power station can be designed very flexibly. However, from 7th November 2024, 200W solar panels, including those with Solar Generators, will no longer include a protective cover bag.

Design and workmanship

Setting up and packing down the Jackery SolarSaga 200 takes only seconds. The panel and all the cables you need for transport come in the bag. Jackery has also added eyelets to this product. So, if you plan to place the panel on your balcony, there will be no problem. However, you will have to purchase the necessary equipment, such as UV-resistant cable ties, to attach the panel separately.

When folded, the solar panel measures  615x552x40mm and weighs 6.2  kilograms. When unfolded, the dimensions increase to 2340x552x25mm, with the panel divided into 4 segments. The workmanship is impeccable.

At first glance, you can tell that this is a durable and high-quality product. On the left side, at the top, is the waterproof connector for the charging cable. Facing it upwards could cause problems in the rain. The connection is waterproof as long as the plug is in it, but water collects around it. So, you should always make sure to keep this area dry before unplugging it. The solar module is IP68 certified. with a functioning temperature range of -20-65°C (-4-149°F). So, you can leave it outside in all weather conditions. Even heavy rain could not damage the module. However,  in the event of a storm, you should secure the solar panel extra well or store it away.

A plastic coating protects the solar cells from wind and weather. This has a honeycomb structure that shines brightly in direct sunlight but never reflects unpleasantly. On the back are three foldable kickstands with elastic bands. These allow you to position the solar panel at an angle between 80 and 45 degrees for maximum performance at any time of day. Besides, the carrying handle has a sun angle indicator, which will help you place this solar panel optimally.

If the weather suddenly changes and you need to pack up your equipment quickly, there is no problem with the SolarSaga 200. Jackery has installed magnetic pads on the panel. This means that the solar panel practically folds itself up in no more than 5 seconds.

Solar cells and performance

Jackery Solar Panel consists of 200 monocrystalline solar cells with a laminated ETFE casing and a cell efficiency of 25%. According to the manufacturer, this means that the solar panel can convert up to 25% of the captured sunlight into solar energy. The nominal power is 200 W and the open circuit voltage is 25 V. If you want to use the solar panel on another power station, it should be able to handle an input voltage of 27-28 V including a safety reserve. This would theoretically make the solar panel ideal for many power stations on the market if it weren’t for the unusual charging plug. The DC8020 plug can currently only be found on Jackery power stations. If you want to use the panel on another power station, you need an adapter from the DC8020 to the corresponding input on your own power station.

According to many users, who have used this solar panel in optimal conditions (at peak sun and correct angle), this solar panel could reach an output power of around 180-185 W, which is a very good performance.

But what happens to this panel if some of its parts are shaded? Shading means that the sunlight is blocked by obstacles such as trees or houses, meaning that the entire panel is not illuminated. Many users who have used the panel on cloudy days have reported that the solar module is very tolerant of shading. Modules from other manufacturers perform much worse in such conditions.

However, this should be taken with caution. In solar panels, countless factors play an important role in achieving the best possible result. Module orientation, for example, can already have a significant impact on solar panel performance.
